Top 5 Genius Kitchen Hacks will change your life in the kitchen. Take a peak at these tips and see if you learn something new to make your kitchen life easier!
I’ve been cooking (on the internet) for a long time now – I started Vegetarian Mamma over 8 years ago! In that time, I’ve tried a lot of recipes, techniques, and tricks.
Some were total flops, but others are miraculous time-savers and hacks that I use all the time.
Today I’ve chosen my favorite 5 Genius Kitchen Hacks to share with you. I hope they make your time in the kitchen easier and more fun.
Bake Beautiful Brownies
The trick to making brownies or dessert bars that look like they came out of a magazine is to use parchment paper to line your baking pan.
Leave extra parchment on each end of the pan, and use it as handles to pull your brownies out when they are mostly cool. Then, let them cool completely before trying to cut into squares.
A good serrated bread knife will keep you from squishing the brownies while cutting them.
Un-Stink Your Hands with Stainless Steel
After cutting and handling garlic or onions, that scent can stick on your skin forever! The easiest way I’ve found to get rid of the smell is to rub my hands with cold water and stainless steel.
If your kitchen sink is stainless, just rub your hands on the side of it. If your sink is not stainless, pick up a stainless steel “soap” bar to keep in the kitchen.
Your hands will never smell like garlic bread again.
Condition your Cutting Boards
I love using wooden cutting boards, but they need to be taken care of in order to keep them looking nice. Clean your board using half a lemon and some coarse salt.
This gets the food particles off and will take away any lingering smells. Use food-grade mineral oil to condition the wood once a month.
Hang on to Leftover Herbs
Every so often I have some fresh herbs left over when I make a recipe. If I’m not going to use them right away, I like to freeze them so I can add them to cooked recipes later on.
You can freeze herbs in water, veggie stock, or olive oil in ice cube trays. Pop the herb cubes in a freezer bag or container and enjoy extra flavor whenever you need it.
Preheat Your Pans
This is especially helpful when you are roasting veggies in the oven. If you start with a hot pan, you won’t need to flip the veggies over, because they will be getting heat from both sides already!
This is a huge time saver – just put the pan in the oven while the oven is preheating.
These kitchen hacks are easy to implement and will save you tons of time and potential aggravation in the kitchen. Remember to try to be creative when you’re cooking – you might come up with some genius kitchen hacks of your own!
