Gluten Free Food Review: Kinnikinnick Soft Bread and Buns

I was very very excited to receive a box full of the new Kinnikinnick soft bread and buns to review!  If you eat gluten free you know that bread is something that can be very different in the gluten free world.

Kinnikinnick Products are produced in dedicated Gluten/Wheat/Nut/Dairy free facilities that use Soy,  Eggs and Sesame Seeds.

Kinnikinnick has two soft breads that are fairly new!  I was super excited by the loaf size of the bread.  It is just like a normal size wheat loaf you’d buy at the store!  Thank you!  The bread tastes great when thawed by room temperature, heated or toasted!  The best part is that it truly does taste great when thawed by room temperature, unlike other breads!  We have found that many breads we have to “toast” to get it to taste good, that is NOT the case with this bread!

Here is a picture of the soft white bread:

This piece does have a few air holes but the entire loaf was NOT like that.  The taste, texture and durability of the bread is fantastic!

Ingredients
Water, White Rice Flour, Potato Starch, Tapioca Starch, Sunflower and/or Canola Oil, Sugar, Egg White Powder, Corn Starch, Cellulose, non-Hydrogenated Shortening (palm fruit and/or canola), Psyllium fiber, Yeast, Modified cellulose, Salt, Rice Starch, Cultured Corn Syrup Solids, Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Modified Cellulose, Vitamin and Mineral Blend(Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folic Acid, Iron), Enzymes

Here is a picture of the soft multi-grain bread:

The bread in this picture was toasted!  I had it in the morning with some homemade jam.  This bread looks and tastes just like a multi-grain gluten bread that we used to by at Whole Foods.  Its wonderful!

Ingredients
Water, Potato Starch, Brown Rice Flour, Tapioca Starch, Sunflower and/or Canola Oil, Sugar, Egg White Powder, Corn Starch, Cellulose, Sunflower Seeds, Flax Seeds, non-Hydrogenated Shortening (palm fruit and/or canola), Psyllium fiber, Quinoa Flour, Teff Flour, Quinoa, Yeast, Modified Cellulose, Flax Meal, Salt, Molasses, Cultured Corn Syrup Solids, Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Modified Cellulose, Vitamin and Mineral Blend(Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folic Acid, Iron), Enzymes
My family was very excited to try the new soft hamburger buns and hotdog buns.  There are many out on the market and we are (were) still searching for the perfect one…until now! :)  The hamburger and hotdog buns are by far the best marketed buns that we have tried.  They are extremely soft and they look/feel like their wheat counterparts!

After trying the hamburger and hotdog buns I planned to ask my whole foods to carry them and to my pleasant surprise they had just started to carry the hotdog buns!  YIPPEE, now I just need to get the hamburger buns in stock!  We are already on our 4th package of hotdog buns.  We use them for our tofu pups as well as hoagies!  Love them!

We truly loved sampling all the soft breads and buns!  We liked them all but our favorites were the buns!  Its hard for us to come across quality products that are free of peanuts, tree nuts, gluten, dairy and soy!  We appreciate that they have a peanut/tree nut gluten free facility!
Our overall rating of the company and the products we tried is a 4, our highest rating!
Thank you for the opportunity to review your products and the free samples you sent!  We hope to try more in the future!  Keep up the great work you are doing for the gluten free community!

Gluten Free Food Review: Kinnikinnick Soft Bread and Buns — 41 Comments

  1. Kinnikinnick is a good company. I’m glad you enjoyed their bread so much and that it tastes like regular bread to you

  2. We love Kinnikinnick products, but I have never seen their bread. We’ll have to watch for it! My son’s been on a gluten free diet now since April ’11. It’s rather challenging, especially as he gets older and more independent… spending more time away from home. Thanks for sharing!

    • Very welcome! I have been doing searching and you can buy them online. It seems if you buy in bulk (about 6 packages at a time) that saves some money. They are very good! Thanks for stopping by and I just visited your blog too! :) Cindy

  3. I agree that Kinnikinnick has the best Gluten free bread that I have tried so far! The taste is great, and I don’t get any intestinal distress (unlike Rudi’s or Udi’s gluten free breads). My only complaint is that Kinnikinnick gluten free breads fall apart when you eat it. Nobody has seemed to mention this yet, and it is definitely something that needs to be looked into. The taste and texture is great, but when you are eating a bun with a salmon/turkey burger in it the bun just crumbles in your hands into a thousand pieces. The hot dog buns don’t seem to do this as much, but the white bread and multi-grain bread does do this also. I have to make sure I’m not eating on the go with this bread because otherwise, I have crumbs and bread pieces all over my lap. Hopefully this will get looked into!!

    • Thanks for the comment! I will tell you that I haven’t had that problem with the soft buns and bread. Ours did not crumble when used fresh or toasted. Hopefully the new formulation in comparison to the old bread is much better for you when you try the soft buns/bread! Let me know! I would also encourage you to email the company and let them know, they are very open to suggestions :) Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a great comment!

  4. I’m Gluten Free Vegan, and very upset that kinnikinnick would use both sugar, and corn in all their products. So GFV have no breads that are commercially made to eat.
