4 simple ways to improve your sleep – Are you getting enough sleep? Sleep is important to our everyday functioning!
We have been talking about detoxing our home quite a bit in the last month. Have you been keeping up with our detox series? We looked at over all home detoxing, we focused on our bedroom and coming soon we will be looking at how we can detox our bathrooms.
Today I wanted to talk about sleep. Our live revolves around sleep. Getting adequate sleep is important to not only our bodies but our minds. I know that I can’t function very well when I do not get a good night’s sleep. Not only is my body miserable but my brain is full of fog!
Sleep ranges vary based upon ages and really upon the individual. My husband’s sleep patterns recently changed and he seems to be requiring less sleep. Me? Not so much. The Sleep Foundation says that adults between the ages of 26 and 64 should get about 7-9 hours of shut eye each night.
Here are the simple steps I’ve used to create a better night’s sleep for myself!
- Have a schedule. This is probably THE hardest for me. That means go to bed at the same time very night and wake up at the same time! Even on weekends!
- Limit food and drink before bed. I know that if I eat or drink too close to my bedroom I seem to dream more and be restless. Be mindful of what you put into your body so close to bedtime!
- Create a bedtime routine. So maybe you practice a few relaxing yoga poses, read a book or meditate. Regardless, create a wind down routine for yourself.
- Get nice and cozy. Invest in some amazing bedding. I’ve found that with some good bedding I am so much more comfortable at night.
