What is Mindfulness and Why Do You Need Some? That is a great question, I am sure you’d heard the word mindfulness and wondered what it means.
Have you heard about Mindfulness? It’s tough to avoid the term, especially if you spend any time on Pinterest or reading the self-help articles your friends share on Facebook.
Mindfulness is not just a modern buzzword though, it is a proven psychological concept that has the ability to change our minds for the better. So, if you haven’t tried it yet, here is some more information that should get you to start.
Mindfulness is a pretty basic concept. It means to be present in the current moment, or “mindful” of what’s happening right now, rather than thinking about the past or the future.
In theory this way of thinking allows you to practice gratitude, find calm, and banish anxieties, which can greatly impact your life, improving your health, relationships, and career.
This article from Karen Asp at Delicious Living describes the benefits of practicing mindfulness. One that I found especially helpful was a description of how Mindfulness can help you to lose weight.
Mindful eating is a practice of paying attention to your food and the choices you make about food throughout your day. For example, how many times have you found yourself at the bottom of a pint of ice cream or a bag of chips when you didn’t really mean to eat that much?
Had you been practicing mindful eating, you would have been enjoying, even savoring each bite of that snack, and likely would have been satisfied after you’d eaten an appropriate serving size. Being aware of your feelings at the time you are eating is a classic mindfulness tool and can be an extremely helpful way to curb binge-eating or general poor choices when it comes to food.
Mindfulness can also be very helpful if you are trying to start a new food lifestyle, such as going gluten free or vegan.
