It's an Italian word, not an English one. It comes from the Latin word "lac" as in "lactose". Notice the similarity with Spanish "leche", French "lait", and Portuguese "leite". As with most non-English words, other countries, especially English-speaking countries, use the term incorrectly. With that said, Caffè latte made with oat milk or Oat Caffè Latte is divine! I like how you served it.
