These crispy Air Fryer Fried Pickles are coated in gluten-free panko and cooked at 400°F for 8 minutes. This easy four-ingredient vegetarian appetizer is crunchy, tangy, and ready in just 20 minutes.
Drain the pickle rounds. Arrange them between paper towels and pat thoroughly to remove excess moisture.
Beat the egg in a small bowl. Mix in the maple syrup, if using.
Place the gluten-free panko breadcrumbs in a second small bowl.
Dip each pickle into the egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off. Coat both sides with panko, gently pressing the crumbs onto the pickle.
Arrange the pickle chips in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 400°F for 8 minutes, manually flipping each pickle after 4 minutes. Do not shake the basket because the coating may come off.
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Pat the pickles thoroughly dry so the coating adheres and becomes crisp.
Arrange the pickles in a single layer and cook in batches if necessary.
Flip each pickle manually instead of shaking the basket.
For a spicy variation, add a little hot sauce to the egg mixture.
Air fryer models vary, so add another minute if the coating is not crisp after 8 minutes.
This recipe is gluten-free only when made with gluten-free panko breadcrumbs.
