I dare you to try to order a Duck Fart Shot at a bar with a straight face! You can save yourself the trouble by making this tasty shooter with a fun name at home, using just 3 ingredients and a simple layering method.
Why Is It Called a Duck Fart?
Are you ready for a little bit of Alaskan history?
Great! So, in the late 1980s, a bartender was testing recipes with an older woman who was sitting at the bar. She suggested a layered shot with Kahlua, Bailey's Irish Cream, and Whiskey, and it was so good that it became a legend!
The name of the shot is really anyone's guess. Some say that the poor woman had some gassiness after drinking too many of them. Others think that it's just a goofy name for a cocktail.
No matter what the story is, a Duck Fart Shot is now part of the lexicon, and you can get one of these at your favorite neighborhood watering hole whenever you're out.
But if you're staying in tonight, it's really easy to make a Duck Fart Shot at home. With just three ingredients and a few little tricks, you'll be able to make a layered shot like a pro!
Tips and Tricks for Making Duck Fart Shots
- You can use your favorite brands of coffee liqueur, Irish cream, and whiskey, but the brands used here are the most common and probably the best options!
- The original recipe for Duck Fart shots used Crown Royal as the top layer.
- The method for creating this layered shot depends entirely on using the back of the spoon to very gently pour in each ingredient.
- Be sure that the tip of the spoon is touching the previous layer before you start pouring, very gently into the glass.
- The top two layers will look like they’re mixing a bit and this is normal. Almost like the Bailey’s is snaking into the whiskey. It’s part of the charm of the Duck Fart.
- You’re not supposed to mix these ingredients before taking the shot, but you can add the ingredients to a rocks glass with ice if you'd prefer to sip on it.
