Air Fryer Kale Chips are a super quick and healthy snack that can be made in under 10 minutes. These kale chips will become your new favorite air fryer recipe.
I’ve made kale chips before but never in the air fryer. These air fryer kale chips were something new for me. I am so glad I took a chance on them! If you aren’t sure if you’d like them, I urge you to give these kale chips a try! They are pretty addicting!
We have made some delicious recipes in our air fryer. I am talking about things like air fryer seasoned pretzels, air fryer mozzarella sticks and air fryer asparagus.
In the past when I have used my oven, I needed to make sure that my kale was in a single layer. When you make kale chips in the air fryer, you don’t have to worry about that. You can dump the kale into the air fryer basket and let it cook!
You might be saying, WAIT, what exactly is an air fryer?
What is an air fryer?
It is a countertop appliance that will soon win your heart over! It is basically a smaller (the inside of it) type of convection oven that moves very hot air around.
The circulating air cooks your food quickly and evenly. I am guessing that you have probably seen an air fryer infomercial or two! While smaller inside than a convection oven, the outside is often typically the size of a toaster oven or slightly smaller. Many people buy air fryers to use when camping in their RV or even for cooking “stinky” foods (think air fryer broccoli) outside.
How to make these air fryer kale chips
- Wash and dry your kale. If you are using unbagged kale, be sure to remove the stem and tear into pieces.
- Add oil to the kale chips. Take a minute to gently massage the kale and the oil.
- Season your kale chips with some seas salt.
- Add some pepper to your kale chips.
- Mix well.
- Put the air fryer basket into the air fryer unit and cook the kale chips.
- Let cool and enjoy!
How long to cook air fryer kale chips
These kale chips cook for only a few minutes. They are literally done in less than 10 minutes, start to finish. The kale chips only spend about 5-6 minutes in the air fryer.
Chip Tips
- You can use stemmed kale or pre-cut bagged kale. Either of those options work to make these kale chips. If you use the stemmed kale, remove the largest part of the stems.
- You can vary the taste by changing up the spices! I have even added nutritional yeast and it was delicious.
- Eat your chips immediately. These kale chips do not save like the ones you buy at the store.
- If you wash your kale, be sure to dry the kale all the way before putting it into the air fryer.
- If you have a Phillips Air Fryer or one that tends to have items “fly” in the air fryer. Be sure to put a trivet over top of the kale. You don’t want the kale to get stuck in the heating part and start to smoke.
How do you season these chips?
You can keep this recipe simple and just season with a little salt and pepper. But here are a few more seasonings you can sprinkle on:
- Garlic powder
- onion powder
- dill
- cumin
- chili powder
- curry powder
Or try combining some to create a whole new fun flavor!
