Beyond Meat Meatloaf is the vegan comfort food of your dreams! Enjoy all the flavors of a traditional meatloaf with a plant-based protein swap instead of meat.
BEYOND MEAT MEATLOAF RECIPE
Comfort food is my middle name. I'm always on the hunt for the most comforting dinners without all the meat and dairy.
Beyond Meat meatloaf will trick even the biggest carnivores into believing this perfectly spiced and sliced loaf is packed with beef and pork.
You can keep this meatloaf recipe vegan by ditching the dairy and replacing the traditional egg binder with a flax egg mixture! But of course, I don't skip the yummy ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard glaze on top. That's the best part!
Love this meatloaf recipe? Try it in the air fryer!
INGREDIENTS IN BEYOND MEAT MEATLOAF
Beyond Meat: Plant-based meats or proteins have come a long way. It's not just tofu anymore! Beyond Meat gives you a perfect meatloaf without the ground beef and ground pork.
Breadcrumbs: Trying to keep it paleo? Ditch the breadcrumbs and use cassava flour or almond flour.
Ketchup: This sauce gets a bad rap for being a super salty tomato dip. However, it brings a deep, rich flavor to the meatloaf and is not to be skipped! You'll use it in the meatloaf and in the glaze.
Onion: Everything is better with onions. As they cook inside the meatloaf, they release moisture and sweetness.
Flax egg: To make this easy vegan meatloaf binder, mix a tablespoon of flaxseed meal with 3 tablespoons of water. Let it chill about 15 minutes in the fridge to set. If you're not on a vegan or egg-free diet, you can always use eggs for the binder!
Mustard: Whether you like it on hot dogs or not, mustard brings a little tang to the mix. Plus it's already best buds with ketchup, so why not?
Liquid smoke: I love liquid smoke because it brings that freshly grilled flavor to anything I'm eating. A little goes a long way here, so be careful!
Garlic powder: Unlike raw garlic, garlic powder has a slightly sweeter spice to it. I add it to almost anything I make.
Salt: Vegan meatloaf needs salt to give it a little extra flavor. Make sure the seasonings get mixed in well.
Smoked paprika: Like liquid smoke, this bright red seasoning brings a little smokiness to the mix. You can use regular paprika in a pinch, too.
Oregano: Where tomatoes go, oregano follows. This Italian seasoning is so perfect with meatloaf. I use dried oregano, but fresh is fine too!
Brown sugar: This and ketchup are in every meatloaf glaze I've ever made. You need the brown sugar for that lightly caramelized top.
Dijon mustard: This takes the glaze to another level. A little extra spice and flavor mixed with ketchup and brown sugar.

HOW TO MAKE BEYOND MEAT MEATLOAF
- First, put the plant-based meat or protein in a large mixing bowl. You want lots of space to add ingredients!
- Then, dice up the onions and add them to the Beyond Meat.
- Now, add the flax egg. You can also use a whisked egg if you're not on a vegan diet.
- After that, add the breadcrumbs to the mix.
- Dump all your spices into the mixing bowl.
- Finally, add the ketchup, mustard, and liquid smoke to the meatloaf mixture.
- Now, stir to combine it all! You'll get a better distribution if you use your hands. Don't be afraid to get in there!
- Shape the meatloaf mixture into a loaf on a baking dish with parchment paper. You can also use a loaf pan if you have it! Pop it in the preheated oven.
- Time for the glaze! Mix the ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard together.
- When timer goes off, take the Beyond Meat meatloaf out of the oven.
- While it's still hot, brush the glaze onto the meatloaf.
- Put the glazed vegan meatloaf back in the oven for about half an hour more. Let it stand at least 10 minutes to set before slicing with a serrated knife for the perfect loaf slices.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH BEYOND MEAT MEATLOAF
Meatloaf needs mashed potatoes. It's just a fact. These vegan mashed potatoes are super creamy made with vegan butter and no cream! You will love these easy Ranch Mashed Potatoes too.
Or, enjoy your meatloaf with Air Fryer Baked Sweet Potatoes, or roasted cauliflower with tahini instead.
Looking for a cold side? This lightly sweetened Amish potato salad is the best with hard boiled eggs, onions, and celery wrapped in a sweet and tangy yellow mustard dressing.
This air fryer green bean casserole is super simple and totally vegan! Your family will never believe it's a dairy-free casserole. For a simpler version, make sauteed green beans and mushrooms instead!
I like to keep my side dishes simple with meatloaf, like these roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts or sauteed sweet potatoes.
WHAT IS A SUBSTITUTE FOR MILK IN VEGAN MEATLOAF?
There are absolutely no animal products in this meatloaf!
Want it vegan? I use a flax egg instead of the traditional whisked egg in this Beyond Meat meatloaf recipe. This gives the loaf the same binding effect.
Most recipes also call for milk to add some moisture to the loaf and the breadcrumbs. I don't use any extra liquid beyond a little ketchup and liquid smoke. No dry meatloaf here! If you feel that it's necessary, a bit of unsweetened almond milk or soy milk can be added.
WHAT CAN I PUT IN MEATLOAF INSTEAD OF BREADCRUMBS?
Without something carby, this vegan meatloaf will be clumps of meat instead of a loaf.
I use breadcrumbs for this meatloaf recipe, but you can also use plain flour.
If you're gluten-free, you can totally use a 1:1 ratio of gluten-free breadcrumbs or flour with no problem.
Just notice you're out of both? You can always use crushed-up crackers like saltines, Club crackers, or Ritz crackers!

Beyond Meat Meatloaf
Equipment
- Baking pan or loaf pan
- Serrated knife
Ingredients
For the meatloaf:
- 1 pound Beyond Meat
- ½ cup breadcrumbs or flour
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- ½ cup onion diced
- 1 flax egg or 1 egg whisked
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon oregano
For the glaze:
- ¼ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
Instructions
- Start with the Beyond Meat protein in a large mixing bowl.
- Dice onions and add to mixing bowl.
- Add flax egg or whisked egg to the bowl.
- Add breadcrumbs, spices, ketchup, mustard, and liquid smoke to the bowl and mix, preferably by hand.
- Shape mixture into a loaf on parchment paper in a loaf pan or baking dish. Bake meatloaf at 375°F/190°C for 35 minutes.
- While the meatloaf cooks, mix the glaze ingredients together and set aside.
- When the timer goes off, take the vegan meatloaf out of the oven and glaze the top with a large spoon or pastry brush.
- Continue cooking meatloaf for 25 to 30 minutes. Let the meatloaf stand at least 10 minutes before cutting with a serrated knife for solid slices.
Notes
- To make flax egg, mix one tablespoon ground flaxseed meal with three tablespoons of water. Mix together, and chill in your fridge for 15 minutes to set up and thicken. Can sub eggs for non-vegan option.
- You can add vegetables to this recipe. Nice additions are a ½ cup of diced carrots or ¾ cup of diced bell pepper. If you enjoy mushrooms, you can also add those to your Beyond Meat meatloaf. Just be sure that you diced them very small so they cook through.
- If you are wanting to make Paleo Meatloaf, you can sub out the breadcrumbs and sub in cassava flour or almond flour.
- Do not skip the resting part of this vegan meatloaf recipe. You need to let the meatloaf sit and rest to cool down.
- Use a serrated knife to cut your meatloaf into slices. This type of knife will help the meatloaf to not break apart when cutting.
- You need to check on your meatloaf every so often to make sure it isn’t crisping too fast or burning. If you feel that the top of your meatloaf is starting to burn, you can place foil on top of the meatloaf.
- Don’t try to rush this vegan meatloaf recipe by increasing the temperature. Cooking at a lower temperature helps to keep the meatloaf moist.
- Cooking times may vary a little depending on how you shape your loaf.

I made this last night and, I must say, the seasoning is PERFECT. Wonderful recipe! (I used a real egg, by the way.) I had never used liquid smoke before. I was always afraid it would taste kind of artificial. It didn't.
Hi Ellie!! I am SO glad you enjoyed it!! Liquid smoke is a fun one. I wasn't sure about it at the start, but it really adds some depth to the flavors!! Thanks for coming back and letting us know you enjoyed it! It means a lot to us and helps others readers!
I made this last night for my daughter and granddaughter and they loved it! I just used real egg, breadcrumbs, ketchup, salt and the onions; and then covered it with the glaze as recipe called for. It was fabulous.
Yay that is amazing!! I am so glad they loved it! Yay for a WIN!! Thanks for coming back and letting me know! It helps others readers!
Made this tonight. It was a huge success with my family. They thought it was one of my best vegan dinners. Followed directions to a T. Served with mashed potatoes and green beans.
This meatloaf is amazing. I've made it several times - my non-vegetarian grandfather loved it and my aunt texted me raving and requesting the recipe!
Yay, so glad to hear that!! So glad you and your grandfather loved it!!
Second time making this meatloaf so I thought I’d say that it’s the BEST vegan meatloaf recipe I’ve tried!!! The liquid smoke makes all the difference in taste! Thank you for this recipe, it’s so nice to have comfort food dishes now that I’m vegan!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
SIMPLY THE BEST VEGAN MEAT LOAF I'VE TRIED
The flavor was wonderful and DON'T, DON'T skip that yummy glaze! I just made this a few days ago but will be making it again tomorrow!
I made this and it was very good! I made a couple of modifications, I added minced celery, fresh garlic and carrot. I omitted the brown sugar in the glaze and substituted Worcestershire sauce. Ketchup is already sweet. I’ll make it agin!
I made this for my son, who is a vegetarian and my husband who is not. I thought my husband would be suspicious as my son was eating it as well...he did not notice and he did not notice it was meatless. It was just as good, if not better than real meat meatloaf. I was impressed with the seasonings and that the liquid smoke and smoked paprika gave it a perfect "can't stop eating it" response... SOOO Yummy!!!
Thank you Cindy for adding to my to my repetoire of healthy recipes...
oomg! This was sooooo good. Adding it to my favorite recipes. Thank you!!!!
I've made this twice. I didn't use the glaze either time as it's just not for me. The first time I served it with a vegetarian gravy. The second time I had some pineapple thar needed to be used. I chopped the pineapple into small chunks and added it to the loaf. It did take about 10 minutes longer to cook with the added pineapple. Both times it was delicious!
I've made this 3 times now - delicious! Even meat-eaters enjoyed it. I didnt have liquid smoke but it was still super good, I also can't eat beyond meat because it gives me heartburn, and it worked just fine with impossible meat aswell.
I am a big fan of Beyond Meats. To me it is heads above the Impossible whatever. I found your recipe for Beyond Meat Meatloaf and made it tonight. It was awesome! This is a first for me. I have tried recipes for this and done my own thing with a lot of guesswork. It always came out gooey and/or mushy. So disappointing after all the work involved. This time I followed your recipe (well, pretty much). I am so pleased with the results. I did some additions, which were:
1. Added a few finely chopped pieces of celery and a large, clove of garlic. I used my food processor and put these in with the chunk of onion, so they were finely chopped.
2. Instead of breadcrumbs, I took a chance and did my usual bread heels smushed up in an egg and a bit of milk. (I am not vegan). I knew I had to limit the liquid, but it was guesswork.
3. I finely ground two Smokey Field Roast sausages in the food processor and added only a small fraction of the liquid smoke. Then mixed everything together with my hands.
I used your exact glaze at halfway through the cooking process.
The loaf came out perfectly, beyond my expectations. It was solid, tasty, and left me wanting to eat the whole thing.
Thank you! I will check your website regularly for more recipes.
OMGosh - this was DELICIOUS!!! And that glaze?!! I’m in Heaven tonight. I could serve this at a dinner party with all meat eaters and they would never know the difference. Thank you for such an amazing recipe!
Just made this tonight and it is delicious! My non-vegetarian spouse loved it and finished his plate so fast. I omitted the liquid smoke and I actually forgot to add flour or breadcrumbs (oops), but it still turned out perfect. I will definitely make this again!
I’m excited to try this recipe! Which is better, panko or regular breadcrumbs?
I'm going to try this tonight! My fiance & son eat beef & pork & I don't. So I'm planning to make one for me with beyond meat. Wondering if anyone's tried this recipe using ground beef?!
Thank you!
I made this as directed the first time and was in love with the savory taste! Meatloaf with mashed potatoes is an all time favorite comfort food and reminds me of my "gramma".
The Beyond meat was really close and hit that nostalgia note, I served it with mashed cauliflower andd asparagus.
The second go round, I meal prepped it! Added some sauteed finely diced mushrooms, and made it in a muffin tin! Two mini meatloaves and some roasted veggies and I had my lunches ready to go for the week! The glaze has no right tasting that good with just 3 ingredients! Definitely a keeper and making it for the carnivore spouse this weekend.
Absolutely amazing! Made this for my Thanksgiving AND Christmas dinners! Trying to decide what to make for my dinner today, and realized I was craving this. It's so easy, and all the ingredients are things I always have on hand. Todays breadcrumbs are Italian, so I cut back on the oregano a bit (the taste of the breadcrumbs is pretty mild). FYI My husband, who is NOT vegan really likes this meatloaf. He had two helpings at Christmas :). Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe.
I was so excited to make this. The taste was great the texture is what I have a question on. Question. I used the loaf pan per the recipe. Cooked the time and the meatloaf inside was a bit mushy/soft. Longer cook time? More bread crumbs? The outside was a good texture.
Thank you SO MUCH for your reply. I used my regular gas oven. Did not use the Air Fryer. I do have an Instant Omni Plus AF oven so I will try that next time! Thank you so so much. I loved it and will make it again!
I made this yesterday and it was delicious. I noticed that the recipe calls for 1 pound of beyond beef but the packages are only 340 grams. Also, the recipe calls for a tablespoon of liquid smoke but the movie calls for a teaspoon of liquid smoke. I opened a second package of beef and made it a pound as called for, and used only a teaspoon of liquid smoke. The taste and texture were perfect.
Is there a substitute for flax egg if I don’t have flax and don’t eat eggs?
I haven't tested this but you could try a chia egg or use an egg replacer like from the brand Enger G 🙂
I'm in heaven!! I have to be careful not to eat the entire loaf in one sitting! I've only eaten vegetarian loaf from Amy's and it's really good but this is better. It's actually the best meat or meatless loaf I've ever had!
Hello Lee! So glad you loved this, it is so easy to make! It is hard not to eat it in one setting I agree. The sauce on top is my FAV! Thank you for taking time to come back and let me know you enjoyed it!
my husband and I are about 6 months into eating plant based and this is by far the most delicious vegan meatloaf we’ve tried!!!
Yay, so glad you enjoyed it!!
I've never eaten meatloaf before but my girlfriend loves it and requested it for dinner. Gave this a go and it was super delish. I was suspicious of the glaze, but honestly it was great! We skipped the onions because neither of us like onions, but I put some onion powder in and a tiny pinch of sugar (because the recipe said onions would add sweetness). It was great. Made a risotto and a salad while it was cookin and it was def one of the best dinners weve both really enjoyed in a minute. Bookmarked to make it again. 🙂
So glad you enjoyed it, the glaze is my fav! 🙂
I made this and it was delicious! I didn't have liquid smoke, so even omitting that one thing, it was fantastic.
So glad you enjoyed it!
This was great! Easy to make but so tasty. Ran out of ketchup so I used tomato sauce and it came out perfect.
So glad you enjoyed it! 🙂 Thanks for coming back and letting me know 🙂
I wanted mashed potatoes, so of course meatloaf to go with. This is the first Beyond meatloaf recipe I came across, and I’ll never need to look for another one! We both loved it. I didn’t have any liquid smoke, it was still tasty, but I can see how that would enhance the flavor. I thought the glaze could do with a touch less sugar, though it was not tooo sweet as is.
Thank you Patti! You made my heart so happy! I am so glad you loved this Beyond Meat Meatloaf! So glad you loved it!
